The Andrew Vaughan Memorial Match.

The Andrew Vaughan Memorial Cup Match took place at Ynyscorrwg Park for the second time and Glyncorrwg run out winners for the first time by a score of 32pts to 26pts in a game full of commitment and open rugby. The try count was 5 trys to 2 in our favour and both teams look good for the coming season. Glyncorrwg took the lead with a try from Gareth Kingman after some continued pressure and Ben Evans then added the conversion. The Athletic then troubled the score board with three penalties and we replied with one ourselves. Our visitors then scored a good try of their own when their centre was on the end of a great offload to score under the posts which was converted. We hit back immediately with a try of our own when number 8 Steffan Williams scored for Rhodri (Trotter) Thomas to convert. The second half was very much the same has the first half with both teams throwing the ball about in the sunshine and the athletic then kicked a penalty to lead 19pts to 14. We then hit back with a try from close range when Steffan Williams crossed for his second for Thomas to convert.        We then scored another try out wide we won a lineout on the left hand side of the field the ball was moved along the line for Josh Thomas to score a unconverted try. The Athletic then scored another fine try by their backs and the reliable kicker at ten added the extra points which left us 1 point in front then in the closing minutes Centre Rhodri Milsom crashed over for the try that sealed the game for us. Best of luck to both teams for the coming season.
