Match Report
20 May 2018 / Team News

We ended the season with another win.

In bright sunshine we entertained Cefn Cribwr for our final game of the season. Before i start my report i would like to give a couple of thank you's out to a our Coaches Paul Clapham, Rhodri Milsom and Steven Lewis for getting us through a very tough season. Also to Captain Damian Warlow and his fellow players for sticking to it and our medics Robert Morris and Nicky Tamlin. The early exchanges were even and the first team on the score board were our visitors who scored out on the right hand touch line and with a great kick at goal by their outside half who converted to give them a 7 point lead. Then after a couple of minutes of pressure by us we scored a try by number 8 Steffan Williams but the conversion from a wide angle by Cory Harris hit the post. With both teams enjoying the sunlight and with no pressure on the game both teams threw the ball about but from a kick forward by Cefn and two of our players getting in a mix-up the ball was hacked into goal and their flanker won the race to touch down under the posts for a easy conversion. They then increased their lead to 10 points with a penalty by their outside half. From a couple of attacks we then got our second try by our Captain Damian Warlow which was converted by Corey Harris. This was the final score of the half to leave Cefn in front by 5 points 17pts to 12.

Cefn started the second half attacking the river end of the field but they could not get through a stout defence. We then scored our 3 try when the barnstorming scrum half Jonathan Howells who was having a great game burst through to score under the post for Harris to convert, and the latter then added a penalty to put us 5 points ahead. We were on top at this moment in the game and Howells scored his second try of the game to give us a bonus point try which Harris converted. With a Cefn prop going off injured the scrums then went passive and this caused us a few problems and from one scrum close to the line the ball found the Cefn centre who beat his marker to score a unconverted try. With the game going into the final minutes we began to wilt in the sun and Cefn then scored a penalty to cut our lead to 5 points, they were soon on the attack and in the last minute won another penalty but could not take the kick at goal so elected for another uncontested scrum but we managed to tackle a attacker win the ball and put it out of play for a good win over fourth placed Cefn.

Later in the evening we held the Player's Presentation and the winners of the trophies were Best Newcomer Luke McDonnell, Most improve Jack Newberry-Wall, Supporter's Player Liam Gibbs, Player of the Year Jonathan Howells and Player's Player Steffan Williams. Captain Damian Warlow presented a plaque to Coach Paul Clapham for his outstanding work he will be missed next season.

A big thank you to all our supporters lets hope we can give you a lot more to cheer next season. Also to all our sponsor's thank you because with out you we would not survive.

SEE YOU ALL NEXT SEASON
