First away league win of the season

We traveled up to Rhigos on the warmest day of the season with only 15 players but came away with a bonus point win that helps us in our fight for relegation. With numerous players unavailable through work, family and social commitments it was hard to put a team on the field and Rhigos had the same problems with only 12 players at kick off time.We started brightly but to be fair to Rhigos they smashed us at every opportunity and restricted our space and slowed down our ball which gave away numerous penalties which we refused to kick at goal and went hunting for tries. Two more players turned up for Rhigos and after some 30 minutes we scored our first try through Jonathan Howells after a line out was won close to the line Howells then converted. But we then shot ourselves in the foot straight from a kick off we failed to gather the ball which then went into touch from the line out we failed to clear the ball and the Rhigos Centre run in a fine try which they converted. But in te last minute of the half fullback Gareth Kingman broke through put in a little chip kick and scored a try near the post for Howells to convert for a 14pts to 7 half time lead.

With both teams feeling the heat in the second half we continued to have the lions share of the game but we failed to cross the white wash with a bit of white line fever. But from a scrum near the line scrum half Steffan Williams normally a flanker picked up and fed a simple pass to Kingman who crossed for his second try of the game which Howells then converted again. We then scored of bonus point try when from a barnstorming run by Mathew Jones who found Rhodri Milsom on his shoulder and the latter sped away for his try which went unconverted. We then scored try number five from a scrum when Williams picked up and drove over for Howells to again slot the conversion. But with the final move of the day Rhigos won the ball in our 22 meter zone and their centre burst away for his second try which was also converted.

Next Saturday we are home to our near neighbours Pontryhdyfen kick off 2-30pm ALL SUPPORT WELCOME.
