Match Report

Poor discipline cost us dear.

We travelled to Alltwen in a far better position than last week with a number of boys back but we could not come home with a much needed win due to our poor second half discipline which cost us the game. The rain had stopped prior to the kick off and Alltwen were first to attack but we weathered the storm and should have taken the lead with a penalty but Ben Evans missed his kick which he would have normally place between the posts. At a scrum 5 we won the ball and number 8 Steffan Williams broke and found stand in scrum half Rhodri Milsom who crossed close to the post but again Evans missed the simple conversion. Alltwen then hit back with 2penalties to take the lead. With both teams moving the ball around it was Glyncorrwg who scored next from a move up the right the ball was transferred to wing Luke McDonnell in his second game for the club to score his first try out wide and Evans found his kicking boots to hit over a fine conversation for a 12pts - 6 lead. But coming up to half time Alltwen then cut our lead with a penalty and again Evans missed a hard chance to increase our lead.

The second half was very much like the first half with both teams show a lot of endeavour but we were guilty of giving away penalties which Alltwen did not take advantage of. The the game swung away from us when the second Alltwen hooker went down injured and we had to go to passive scrums this took away a good advantage for us. With the game going into the final couple of minutes and us down to 13 men because of the numerous penalties we gave away Alltwen won a ball close to our line and spread it well and we just run out of defenders to score a unconverted try out wide. then in the last minute we again gave away a easy penalty for Alltwen to increase their lead. We can be thank full for a losing bonus point but should have come away with a win.

Next week we are home to Tonmawr RFC kick off 2-30pm the game will be sponsored by the past players association for the first time. All support welcome and we will be holding a minutes silence for our past Chairman Mr. Jeffrey Boney Jones so please come along and pay your respects to Jeffrey.
