Match Report
26 March 2017 / Team News

So near yet so far.

In a very even game we just fell short to a dubious try a couple of minutes from the end. With a much improved team and performance from the last time we meet Tonmawr only two weeks ago the boys gave everything they had but just lost.

The game kicked off in bright sunshine but with a strong cross wind, Tonmawr dropped a ball close to half way and we hacked through to the try line and from the resulting scrum we executed some pressure and from a series of drives second row Diddy Richards forced his way over for a unconverted try. After this our visitors then put us under some sustained pressure and we finally cracked in the 15 minute when they also scored a unconverted try. With both side giving it everything we regained the lead in the 30th minute after the Tonmawr forwards spoke out at the referee who then awarded us with a penalty which Ben Evans converted. Soon after this we again attacked down the right hand and number 8 Steffan Williams gave a lovely pass to to wing Josh Thomas who crossed for a try converted by Evans. We were unlucky not to extend our lead when Evans made a good break but he run out of supporting players and Tonmawr cleared the danger for us to finish the half 15pts to 5 in front.

The second half was very much as the first half for some 15 minutes but Tonmawr hit back with a unconverted try by their hooker who just got over the try line. With their tails up our visitors then put us under some pressure but good defence kept them at bay but they reduced our lead to 2 points when the won a penalty which their outside half duly slotted. With the game going into the final quarter Tonmawr then took the lead through a disputed try when their prop forward lost the ball forward into one of our defenders with the referee unsighted it bounced off our defender back into the Tonmawr props hands and he went over under the posts for a converted try. But we gave it our all for the last few minutes and run everything at out opponents who kept us at bay a couple of time we went close but in the final move we lost the ball for Tonmawr to put out of play.

I have to say that the young referee Mr Keiron Hooper had a great game and looks to go a long way if he keeps this standard up.

Next Game is home to fellow strugglers Bryncethin on 1st April kick off 2-30pm. Who ever lose's this game looks destined to finish bottom of the table. All support welcome.
