A WIN AT LAST.

At last we break our losing run of 8 games on the bounce with a very good win over fellow strugglers Crynant RFC and this win lifts us of the bottom of the table and gives us hope to catch our next opponents Ogmore Vale RFC who are 1 place above us and 3 points, so a win would lift us above them and a bonus point win put us 2 points above them.

On a heavy pitch and one of our strongest teams of the season we kicked off attacking the river end of the field. We put Crynant under some prolonged pressure but with a wet ball and some passes going to ground we could not score. But that changed after 15 minutes when player coach Rhodri Milsom crossed for the first of his two tries on the day which was converted by Gareth Goodridge making a welcome return on permit from Maesteg. But our joy was turned to despair when straight from the kick off we gave away a penalty switched off and the Crynant Scrum half Craig Davies sped away and scored in the corner for a unconverted try, We attacked at every opportunity and in the last seconds of the half we won a straight forward penalty but Goodridge hit the post the ball went out wide where Daniel Richards won it on the floor and after we won a few rucks young hooker Liam Gibbs scored his first senior try for the club which Goodridge converted for a 14pt to 5 lead.

We began the second half in the same mood has the first where we moved the ball around at every opportunity and was rewarded with our third try from Centre Paul Smith which went unconverted. This was soon followed by our fourth and bonus point try from Gibbs his second of the match which Goodridge converted. This was soon replicated when after a series of charges for the line Milsom crashed over for his second try with Goodridge again adding the extra points. Again we attacked and Crynant were penalised for killing the ball under their posts captain for the day Steffan Williams in the absence of the injured Damian Warlow took a quick tap and crashed over under the posts for a try which young wing Ben Evans missed the conversion. In the last movement of the game we hacked a dropped ball through and with the line at his mercy scrum half Jonathan Howells was taken out and the referee immediately awarded a penalty try which gave us our 45pts yo 5 win. Man of the match was young hooker Liam Gibbs.

NEXT WEEKEND WE ARE HOME TO OGMORE VALE RFC IN OUR REARRANGED GAME KCK OFF IS 2-30PM ALL SUPPORT WELCOME.
